Culture Fundamentals: Infinite Game methodology
Promoting a Just Cause
It focuses on adopting a specific and tangible vision of a desired future that does not yet exist. This future must be inspiring and capable of motivating people to make personal or collective sacrifices to move towards that state. The just cause goes beyond superficial objectives such as "making money" or satisfying shareholders alone.
Building Trusting Teams
This principle is based on the understanding that a group of people does not necessarily constitute a team. Trust is fundamentally a feeling, which manifests itself in the security we experience in being vulnerable with each other. It is creating an environment where vulnerability is seen as an opportunity for growth and not as a weakness.
Studying Worthy Rivals
It is crucial to change the perception of competitors, no longer seeing them as adversaries to be beaten. Instead, they should be seen as worthy rivals, i.e. counterparts who inspire and challenge us to improve. This perspective helps us to see competition as an opportunity to become better versions of ourselves rather than simply a game of win or lose.
Preparing for Existential Flexibility
It focuses on developing the ability to introduce significant disruptive changes in the business model or strategic direction. This is done with the goal of advancing a just cause more effectively. It involves the ability to adapt radically when necessary to remain relevant and true to the organisation's core mission.
Demonstrating the Courage to Lead
Refers to a willingness to take risks in pursuit of an uncertain future. This may mean making decisions that may be costly in the short term, either financially or politically, if it is believed that they will lead to long-term outcomes aligned with the just cause. It also includes the courage to maintain ethical standards that exceed minimum legal requirements, acting with integrity and social responsibility.
